Slover Public Library in Norfolk is set to hold its 3rd Annual LGBT Film Festival this coming weekend, May 5 and 6, 2018. The event is co-sponsored by Hampton Roads Pride, PFLAG, the LGBT Life Center, and Naro Video. This year’s films are: 52 Tuesdays at 1pm on Saturday and Holding the Man at 4pm on Saturday. Princess Cyd at 12:30pm on Sunday and Gods and Monsters at 2:30pm on Sunday. All showings will be on the sixth floor in rooms 640 and 650.
52 Tuesdays is an Australian coming of age drama first shown at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The story is about a teenage girl dealing with her mother’s female-to-male gender transition.
Holding the Man is an Australian romantic drama about two boys who fall in love in high school. The story follows slices of life from their 15 year relationship including dealing with HIV. The story is an adaptation of Timothy Conigrave’s 1995 memoir of the same name.
Princess Cyd is a 2017 drama about a girl who visits her aunt in Chicago for the summer. While there, she falls in love with a girl in the neighborhood.
Gods and Monsters is a 1998 period drama that tells the story of the last days of the openly gay film director James Whale. Whale directed such classic horror films such as Frankenstein, The Old Dark House, The Invisible Man, and Bride of Frankenstein.
